How To Treat Ear Infections - CATS

Here is Akita, she is my eldest child....if you go under my Pet page on my blog, you will read a little history on her story.

Poor Akita didn't have the best life until I found her and rescued her from a life of Sex and Drugs!  Her story is one that is way too familar to us.  Abandoned, homeless, using sex as way to survive!

This poor kitty cat was roaming the streets of Niagara, lonely, hungry, flea infested and pregnant....a young pregnant mother to be, with no where to live....this was not the environment that she wanted for her unborn children....so what is a mother to do?

Being from the streets, she was very savvy....she knew what she needed to do, and that was to find herself and her kittens a safe, warm place to live....and that is how the story starts.

Akita, basically won my heart, and needless to say 12 years later, here we are.....she has been a healthy cat, but on occassion, I have had some scares....most recent, my poor senior girl has had some issues with an ear infection.  As any good pet owner would do, I took her to the vet....I actually went to a new clinic that opened near my home....the vet was cold and not warm with her....and basically I could tell he was all about the "D" word....you know the 3 letter word that we don't use on our house..."DOG"....this vet took one quick look at Akita, prescribed antibotics, ear drops and away we went....the shocking part of his examination, is that he didn't even handle her or look into her ear, just basically did a quick once over!!! Well, he's the vet, so I thought...he must know what the heck is talking about....little did I know, that was not the case! Thank you very much, here is your $150 donation for a 5 minute exam! YIKES!

Anyway, to make a long story short...her ear infection was not cured....it actually continued to get worse...so I did some research on the internet, spoke to some pet owners about it and what I learned was that sometimes you can treat your pets "naturally"....so I tried it....and this is the remedy that I found to work for a CAT EAR INFECTION: ( I have been using Apple Cider and Olive Oil remedy on Akita, and within 3 days, I have seen a 50% improvement with her ear, and noticed a considerable improvement with her behaviour)

** Please note disclaimer - this is definitely not to replace professional Vetenarian care for your pets....always consult your Vetenarian whenever you see that your pet is not behaving normally, or is showing symptoms of sickness

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties and is a good home remedy for treating cats' ear infection.
Mix one part of apple cider vinegar to two parts of water (such as half a cup of apple cider vinegar and one cup of water) for a homemade ear infection remedy. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and wipe the inside of the cat's ears, as this will help remove any debris and brown discharge. Do not poke inside the ear canal with your finger, as that can damage cat's hearing or cause other ear problems.
With an ear dropper, place two drops of apple cider vinegar in the cat's ear and massage. Ask for assistance to hold the pet down, if the cat is unwilling to let you apply this remedy.
Olive oil
Apply two drops of olive oil with an ear dropper into your cat's ears to soothe irritation and provide itching relief. Olive oil is a good home remedy to use as it will also smother ear mites.
Combine two tablespoons of olive oil and one drop of mineral oil and use this as a homemade ear cleaning solution. Do not use tea tree oil though as it is toxic to cats.
Green tea
Green tea is a natural antiseptic and can be used to treat cats' ear infection. Steep a bag of green tea for five minutes in water and cool off. Apply two drops in each ear with an ear dropper and gently massage the liquid inside the ear canal by placing your finger outside the cat's ear. Repeat the green tea ear remedy daily.
Tea Tree Oil Remedy On Cats Warning
Tea tree oil is not safe to use on felines, it is actually toxic to cats. Do not apply tea tree oil as a home remedy for cat ear infections!

My 9 Hour Adventure at the Atlanta Airport

On Sunday, January 6th I woke up at 3am....after going to bed at midnight.  I DID the math on my fingers and I KNOW that this is only 3 hours of sleep folks! For the record, I am not a morning person....never have been, never will be....

I am sure you are all wondering what my cats thought about me waking  up at this unnatural time of day......well, I looked over at Marco who sleeps ontop of my pillow by my head, with one eye open, one closed, as if to be winking at me, his telepathic voice said...."hey sucker, who told you to book such an early assed flight......., i know that you wish you were me right now, but your not.....so shut the light and get out of here so i can go back to sleep".......Mozart took it as it was a sign that it was time for treats, and Akita, lifted her head from her feline slumber, took one look at me as if to say, 'Are you feeling ok?' And back to snoozing she went....

After getting picked up by my driver at 4am, we headed to the Buffalo airport....you know you are up at an insane hour when there is absolutely no other cars at the border....I mean..NO other cars....

Flight from Buffalo was delayed due to de-icing.....it took 20minutes for this procedure, but what was my saving grace were my seat mates, you know the 5second friends you make while on a plane.....I met a real cool guy who was heading for a cruise on MSC cruise lines....an Italian cruise line....what I found interesting about his trip is that the cruise he was going on was a music festival cruise....5 days filled with musicians that play jam music, bluegrass and non main stream music....jam bands like Moe, Lettuce, John Butler Trio, the guitarist from Grateful Dead, and so on........different venues play throughout the course of the cruise....similar to Bonnaroo, Lolapalooza, etc., but on a boat on the great mighty Carribbean waters! Super Cool! They were off to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos......lucky dudes!

When we landed  in Atlanta most of us literally had 15 minutes to get to our perspective gates.....so I did the OJ Simpson run but it was the chubby girl version....THIS girl don't or should I clarify, can't run!   While jogging, walking to my gate, I met up with a family that had been on my flight from Buffalo that was heading to the same gate as me.  As they were sporting running shoes and were way more fit than me......they reminded me of a  Bruce Jenner family pre Kardashian intervention..... they were faster and got to our gate a few minutes before me......when I reached the gate, they told me that the gate was changed....changed!!!!! I checked the board, why would the airport not update the departure board??? So we now had 5 minutes to go all the way back to where we were, because the gate for departure was right  beside the gate we arrived in,  which was in a different terminal, of course......I counted....2 terminals.....60 gates each way.....equals 120 gates back and forth.......that's a whole lot of grasping for breath!

So again, we run...I did my cardio, let me tell you! When we arrived, the gate was closed!!!!!WHAT!!!!! The plane  was still there, I see it, it hasnt even started backing out of its parking spot, let me on it NOW, I was screaming in my head......but it was too late....2 minutes too late.....but I ran all the way here, twice.....please?......forget about it, it wasn't happening......We were informed that the next flight was at 10:30am...ok, I can live with that....but guess what, it was heading to Fort Lauderdale......Right about now you are all thinking.....I don't get it? ...Neither did I........it so happens that the family that was running for the same gate as me, was flying to Florida, NOT Charlotte......they went to the wrong gate when we landed......but guess what...I didn't....I was at my gate ON TIME....I could have made my flight ON TIME....but because I figured they were on my flight, I assumed I went to the wrong gate too.....so imagine my frustration when I discovered THIS glorious news!   So here I am panting, breathless, sweaty, my hair flat...and I WAS rocking a great hair day......I was left stranded at airport! STRANDED A FOOL!

So the next flight to Charlotte on Airtan (airline that I was flying) was at 6pm.....omg...what was I going to do for 9 hours.....first on my agenda......complain to customer service......I had to go to them 2 times to get what I wanted.....first they gave me a $10 food voucher, second time around, I asked for a comp upgrade to first class!  $10 for food for being here for 9 hours....you kidding me girl....I know I have been doing Weight Watchers, but girl needs to keep up strength if you have her doing laps around the terminals like she is training for the Atlanta Marathon...The only thing I could do at this point was tell them the truth, that  I missed my flight due to de-icing, not because I was an idiot and went to the right gate, which was at terminal C only to leave it and go back to terminal D, to the wrong gate, only to miss the flight that I should have been on.....so anyway, I received an upgrade to first class and a voucher for food....and I was satisfied. Now what?
I went to every terminal at this airport,A, B, C, D, E and F....I rode on the plane train as the lady on the recorded message called it, visited the sites, aka, shops and restaurants, met the workers, met some travellers and started blogging....hence, what you are reading....I'm writing this blog while seated in terminal C in a big comfy chair at the Southwest gate....

My advice to all you wonderful readers of my humble blog, is this.....When life gives you lemons.....slice them up and mix them with some vodka and do shots!
Oh and ask for what you want, you may be surprised to find that sometimes you get what you need! Lol

Check out some footage of my time at the Atlanta airport...and remember......double check your gate when you arrive....don't assume the people you decide to follow are right...because, if you do, you too may have a PEBBLES MOMENT...(acronym for BLONDE MOMENT!)

Thank you for reading and hope you stay tuned for my next blog.....

Ciao for now!

Goals for 2013

Well, it's that time of year where we all have great intentions of setting our new resolutions, goals, etc.  I'm no different.  I have my goals all planned out, but to help me keep on track I have incorporated a few techniques that help me stay focused, which for anyone who knows me, isn't always easy.  I've made a few suggestions below and hopefully you will find that they help you out.

1. Make a list of your goals for the year. Try to keep them to no more than 10 goals.

2. Categorize your goals, eg. Health, Finance, Exercise, etc.

3. In your categories, explain your strategy in how you will fulfill the goal ....set up steps on how you plan to obtain the goal.

4. Set a date by when you wish to have this goal reached

5. (optional) - make yourself a Vision Board (collage) of  how your achieved goals will look like...this is something that is visually inspiring and you should place it somewhere where you will see it daily, to motivate you in keeping on track

I am happy to share my goals for 2013, which are as follows:

FINANCIAL
1. Reduce financial debt by 33% by end of the year
2. Only purchase shoes/clothes/beauty products - 3 months of the year....choose when - limit shopping sprees.
3. Increase savings by 25%

HEALTH AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING
1. Exercise and start yoga - 2 times per week for the first quarter of the year. Increase to 3 times per week during the second and third quarter of the year and 4 times per week during the 4th quarter of the year.
2. Lose 1/4 of the weight that I wish to loose by the end of each quarter of the year.
3. Have something posititve to say about others, even when they are not nice.
4. Spend more time with family and friends. Make sure to spend time with a friend each month.
5. Eat whole/fresh foods...reduce the amound of processed foods.
6. Go on a Carribbean Vacation for 1 week and not think about work
7. Declutter computer room, closets - organize these areas - by second half of the year

FINISH MY OUTSTANDING TASKS
1. Finish Kitchen Renos by the first quarter of the year.
2. Get new tires for the car by the first quarter of the year.

** KEEP IN MIND, THAT THINGS CAN CHANGE THROUGH THE COURSE OF THE YEAR.  Feel free to add new goals or alter goals as you go.  Perhaps you want to increase your exercise to 4 times a week, but originally you wanted only 2 times per week....small changes can help you attain your goals.  Don't be too restrictive or unrealistic with your goals, as I have found that when I set my goals too big or restrictive, I fail and get discouraged.  This is all about small steps to achieving what you want in 2013!

MARIA'S 2013 VISION BOARD
I have a photo of what my Vision Board for 2013 looks like for you to have an idea of the concept.

January 13, 2013 - just finished my vision board collage....see photos below: -- have fun with it!

Let me know if you did a Vision Board, would love to see how yours turned out!
